Bích Quang (Jade Light) Table Lamp
Bích Quang takes its name from the blue and green glints in its floral inlay. For this standalone Studio Tôduy design, we chose a different shell species from the one we use in our Ngự Uyển collection. The blossoms on those pieces reflect warm pinks and reds. Here, the mother-of-pearl has naturally cooler tones: a petal that appears blue from one angle catches a hint of green from another.
Our artisans cut each petal and leaf by hand, then carve a matching recess in the solid sepetir wood to fit each piece of shell. We give the wood a glossy black finish that sets off even the palest colors in the inlay. A conical shade of pleated linen softens the light when the lamp is lit. We wanted the flowers to hold your attention even when the lamp is off, as daylight moves across the shell.
