Part of Studio Tôduy’s Ngự Uyển collection, Ngọc Đài brings delicate botanical detail to a sculptural, geometric form. Its upper section is handcrafted from carefully selected solid sepetir wood, naturally air-dried for two to three years before production, and rests on a honed green onyx base.
Known in Vietnam as gụ mật, this hardwood is prized in traditional furniture making for its hardness, distinctive grain, and suitability for fine cabinetry and carving. Its use gives Ngọc Đài another connection to the collection’s Vietnamese heritage.
Mother-of-pearl inlay adorns five surfaces of the wooden upper section. Each shell element is individually cut by hand and fitted into a corresponding recess carved by hand into the wood by Studio Tôduy’s artisans. The shells reveal shifting, iridescent colors as the light and viewing angle change, complementing the onyx’s soft matte finish and natural veining. An integrated drawer with a matte brass knob provides discreet storage.
