Hoa Anh (Flower Reflections) Floor Mirror

$0.00

For Hoa Ảnh, we wanted the furniture traditions of Huế’s imperial court to be most apparent at the foot of the mirror. Both the curved profile of the stand and the ornamental pattern across its face draw on that tradition. Above it, a simple rectangular frame gives the three-dimensional mother-of-pearl inlay room to stand out.

A flowering branch curves around the lower corner of the glass, while birds and smaller blossoms appear farther up the frame. Our artisans cut each shell element by hand, then carve a corresponding recess into the wood. The petals rise in relief above the black surface, each catching the light at a different angle. As you move past the mirror, a blossom shifts from soft pink to a deeper rose. It is this exchange between the light on the flowers and the reflection in the glass that gives Hoa Ảnh its name.

We make the frame and stand from solid sepetir, known in Vietnam as gụ mật, and let the wood air-dry naturally for two to three years before production. We paint it black, giving the surface a deliberately raw, understated finish that sets off both the ornament at the foot and the delicate relief of the shell.
